Caring for Your Grillz

Grillz Care Instructions

Use these care instructions to keep your grillz looking great and fitting comfortably. Proper care also helps protect your teeth and gums.

Before You Wear Them

1) Only wear on clean teeth

  • Brush and floss before putting your grillz on.

  • If you have aligners/retainers, remove them first unless instructed otherwise.

2) Put them on gently

  • Place grillz onto the teeth and press evenly with your fingers.

  • Do not bite down to force them into place (this can bend or crack delicate details).

3) Do not adjust them yourself

  • Never bend, squeeze, or “tighten” your grillz at home.

  • If the fit feels off, contact us for a professional adjustment.

What to Avoid

Do not:

  • Sleep in your grillz

  • Eat with your grillz (unless explicitly approved for your design)

  • Chew gum or sticky candy while wearing them

  • Smoke or vape while wearing them (can stain and weaken finishes)

  • Use alcohol, bleach, jewelry dips, toothpaste, or abrasive cleaners

  • Use ultrasonic cleaners (especially with stones, enamel, opals, or glued settings)

Daily Cleaning

After each wear:

  1. Rinse with lukewarm water.

  2. Clean gently using:

    • Mild dish soap or gentle hand soap

    • A soft baby toothbrush or ultra-soft brush

  3. Rinse thoroughly.

  4. Pat dry with a soft microfiber cloth.

Important: Avoid hot water—heat can weaken adhesives and damage delicate materials.

Storage (Very Important)

  • Store your grillz in the provided case when not in use. Ideally, with it sitting on your dental stone model.

  • Keep them dry, away from bathroom humidity.

  • Store separately from other jewelry to prevent scratches.

  • Do not toss them in a pocket, bag, or loose drawer.

Fit & Comfort Notes

  • A snug fit is normal, but pain is not.

  • If you feel sharp pressure, cutting, or tooth sensitivity:

    • Stop wearing them and contact us.

  • Dental work (cleanings, new fillings, whitening, Invisalign, etc.) can change fit.

Material-Specific Care

Solid Gold (10K/14K/18K/22K/24K)

  • Gold is durable, but can still scratch and bend.

  • Higher karats (22K–24K) are softer—handle gently and avoid pressure.

  • Avoid chemical cleaners and “polishing cloths” meant for plated jewelry.

Best practice: Light soap + soft brush only.

Sterling Silver (925)

Sterling silver can tarnish naturally from air, moisture, and skin oils.

Care:

  • Dry completely after cleaning.

  • Store in an airtight bag/case when possible.

  • Use a silver polishing cloth occasionally (light pressure only).

  • Avoid saltwater, chlorine, and sulfur exposure.

Avoid: Harsh dips (they can strip finishes and damage details).

White Gold / Rhodium-Plated Pieces

  • Rhodium plating can wear down over time with friction.

  • Clean gently to preserve the finish.

Care:

  • No abrasive brushes or toothpaste.

  • If the finish dulls, contact us for re-polishing or re-plating options.

Grillz with Enamel (Colored Enamel, Painted Details)

Enamel is beautiful but can chip or crack if impacted or exposed to harsh conditions.

Extra care:

  • Do not bite to seat the grillz.

  • Avoid hot water and sudden temperature changes.

  • No ultrasonic cleaners.

  • Avoid alcohol-based cleaners (they can dull or weaken enamel over time).

  • Do not eat/drink staining liquids while wearing (coffee, wine, soda).

Tip: Store so enamel surfaces don’t rub against metal.

Grillz with Opals

Opals are one of the most delicate gemstones: sensitive to heat, dryness, chemicals, and impact.

Extra care:

  • Never use hot water, steam, ultrasonic, or chemical cleaners.

  • Avoid prolonged direct sunlight and heat (can cause cracking/crazing).

  • Avoid wearing in very dry conditions for long periods.

  • Wipe gently with a soft damp cloth only.

Do not: Soak opal pieces.

Grillz with Jade

Jade is tough, but its polish can dull and it can chip with sharp impact.

Extra care:

  • Avoid dropping the grillz on hard surfaces.

  • Clean with mild soap + lukewarm water only.

  • Avoid ultrasonic cleaners if jade is set with glue or surrounded by delicate details.

Tip: Dry fully and store separately to prevent scratches.

Grillz with Other Delicate Materials

This includes: pearls, turquoise, coral, malachite, lapis, amber, shell, soft inlays, glued settings, or thin stone caps.

Extra care:

  • Treat as “no heat, no chemicals, no soaking.”

  • Clean using a slightly damp soft cloth and mild soap only when necessary.

  • Avoid alcohol wipes, sanitizers, and jewelry dips.

  • Avoid prolonged moisture (can weaken adhesives).

If you’re unsure: Assume it’s delicate and clean gently.

If Something Feels Off

Contact us if you notice:

  • A sudden change in fit

  • Sharp edges or rubbing

  • Loose stones/inlays

  • Cracks, chips, or enamel lifting

  • Any discomfort on the tooth or gumline

Do not attempt DIY fixes—we can adjust and re-check the fit safely.
